Over one hundred years ago, Lotte Reiniger, a pioneer of German cinema, created some of her masterpieces in silhouette animation, inspired by the world of classic fairy tales. Through the enchanting art of hand-cut black silhouettes, she brought to life an animated universe from the 1920s to the 1950s. This universe was entirely founded on the interplay of light and shadow, thus creating an animation technique that recalled the ancient art of Chinese shadows.
