Mina Mileva born in Sofia, graduated in animated film directing from the National School of Visual Arts in Brussels and from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. Vesela Kazakova born in Sofia, graduated both acting and producing respectively in the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in 2000 and University of Economics in Sofia 2003. Together they created in 2008 Activist38, their production company. Mina and Vesela have directed and produced subversive documentaries, which, according to Variety act as ārare gadflies whose sting is causing a massive allergic reaction on the thin skin of Bulgariaās filmmaking eliteā. Despite their international recognition, the films havenāt been aired on Bulgarian television for years.
Their first fiction film Cat in the Wall premiered in Competition at the Locarno Film Festival 2019 and SXSW for North America. It received the FIPRESCI Award at the Warsaw Film Festival 2019 and was part of the EFA Feature Film Selection 2020. The film ranked number 1 in Screenās summer festivals selection of 2019. Their second feature drama and one of the winner projects of WEMW 2020, Women Do Cry, was selected in āUn Certain Regardā at the Cannes Film Festival 2021.MMina and Vesela will participate in the 2024 edition of WEMW with their new project entitled Womaniser. The Trieste FF presented all of their documentaries and feature films.
