CinemaNortheast opens the Cinema Garden: five free evenings dedicated to the Northeast

The Cinema Garden season kicks off from June 10 to 14 with #CinemaNordEst, the festival organized by the Trieste House of Cinema Association as part of Trieste Estate 2026. Five events with free admission, always at 9 p.m., will bring films and short films related to the territories of the Three Venetias and the cross-border area to the big screen.

The summer arena of the Muzio de’ Tommasini Public Garden will host a journey through contemporary cinema, productions made in the Northeast and works that tell of places, stories and identities of an area that is increasingly central to the European landscape.

Opening the festival on Wednesday, June 10, will be Gabriele Salvatores’ Napoli – New York, a coming-of-age adventure set after World War II and also filmed in Trieste. On Thursday, June 11, space will be given to the comedy Esprimi un desiderio (Make a Wish) by Volfango De Biasi, starring Diego Abatantuono and Max Angioni, in an evening produced in collaboration with the Goffredo de Banfield ETS Associative Foundation.

Friday, June 12 will see the screening of Last Slap by Matteo Oleotto, an Italian-Slovenian co-production set in the border province. Saturday, June 13, will instead be dedicated to Corti senza confine, a project created for GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica-Gorizia, which brings together eight short films on the theme of the border as a place of meeting and sharing.

The festival will close on Sunday, June 14, with Silvio Soldini’s Bread and Tulips, one of the best-loved comedies in contemporary Italian cinema, which won nine David di Donatello awards.

All screenings are free admission while seats last.
