Ahead of the upcoming celebrations for NOVA GORICA – GORIZIA as the European Capital of Culture 2025, Alpe Adria Cinema has organised, for the third consecutive year, a roundtable discussion connected to the event calendar, which will place Nova Gorica and Gorizia at the center of the cultural life of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region (FVG) and beyond.
In previous editions, the roundtable explored topics such as territorial film development as a socio-economic and cultural driver, and the accessibility and sustainability of cultural events within other European Capitals of Culture. Representatives from these capitals came to Trieste in 2023 and 2024 from various countries to exchange best practices and reflect on the themes discussed.
This year, the dialogue continues with other European cities, focusing on bilingualism (or even multilingualism). It seems particularly useful and interesting to understand how the European Capital of Culture initiative has helped (or will help) to strengthen a unite linguistic communities within the same area, as well as to identify practices that have been introduced or are still in place. This year in Trieste, representatives from the following European Capitals of Culture will be present: Esch-Sur-Alzette, Plovdiv, Timișoara, Chemnitz, Nova Gorica-Gorizia.
The representatives of these capitals will share their experiences as bilingual cities, focusing on practices related to the multilingual communication of cultural events, strengthening the multi-identity of a region, and promoting inclusivity for ethnic and cultural minorities.
The panel, bilingual Italian/English, is aimed at representatives of local and institutional bodies from the entire Friuli Venezia Giulia region and Slovenia, as well as at cultural event organizers and the general public.
