In a decaying Soviet-era retirement home, a lively group of elders finds purpose in staging Shakespearean
plays. “Outliving Shakespeare” follows this retiree theatre troupe as they bond during rehearsals and prepare
for their premiere night. What begins as a lighthearted and warm portrayal of the innocent dignity of ageing
gradually evolves into a profound exploration of the loneliness that often accompanies it. As the production
unfolds, the theatre begins to reflect the realities of their lives. Loneliness persists beyond the theatre’s walls,
blurring the lines between drama and reality.
