Riccardino is about to turn 18 in the foster home where he lives. He has been separated for four years from his mother, a woman with severe personality disorders. Despite the thoughtful and attentive guidance of his educator, Riccardino decides to run away, join his mother and live with her. His illusion will soon turn into a bitter truth and Riccardino will have to make a difficult choice. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival as part of the Biennale College Cinema 2024 projects.
âThe origin of the film dates back to a writing workshop I conducted at foster homes in Rome in 2018 … I hope that the film captures the essence of the characters, especially the protagonist, who represents a new generation of young people living on the margins of societyâoften invisible and growing up without parental support. This generationâs response to painful situations is not merely one of despair or passivity; instead, it is marked by a strong sense of irony and irreverent humor, which they use to protect themselves from their ghosts.â (C. Christian Filippi
A screenwriter and director, Christian Filippi was born in 1992 in Rome. He completed his studies in cinema and television at the Istituto Roberto Rossellini and graduated in Cinema from the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA). Additionally, he obtained a Masterâs degree in Publishing, Journalism, and Cultural Management from La Sapienza University in Rome. Filippi has experience working in publishing, and he has held positions as a casting assistant and assistant director in the film industry. His feature debut, My Birthday, after its premiere in Venice, was later selected for the Alice nella CittĂ festival in Rome, where it received a Special Mention from the Jury.
