Lucia, an introverted and sensitive 16-year-old, attends the choir of a Catholic school: here she meets Ana- Maria, strong and charismatic, and finds herself facing the first questions of life: who does my body belong to? How do you deal with friendship, jealousy, attraction? Presented at the 2025 Berlinale in the “Perspectives” section, Little Trouble Girls is a nominee for the 2026
EFA in the ‘European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI’ category. The film is Slovenia’s official entry for the 2026 Academy Awards.
“The initial spark for the project came in 2018, when I attended a concert by a Slovenian girls’ choir. As soon as I heard them sing, tears filled my eyes. I was deeply moved by the power of their voices … There were also three priests sitting in the audience, who were just as moved as I was. I I felt this experience was significant, prompting me to explore the theme and my emotional response through the language of cinema.” (U. Djukić)
Urška Djukić
Director, screenwriter and film editor, Urška Djukić was born in Ljubljana in 1986. She studied media arts with a focus on film at the University of Nova Gorica’s School of Arts. After completing her master’s degree, in 2016 she directed the short animation Bon Appétit, La Vie! which was awarded Best Short at the Festival of Slovenian Film Portorož. Her animation Granny’s Sexual Life has won over 50 international awards, including the EFA Award for Best Short Film in 2022 and the 2023 Cesar Award for Best Animated Short Film. Little Trouble Girls is her debut feature.
