Ida is a spirited ten-year-old girl growing up in the rural Slovenian countryside, where she lives with her parents and grandmother who is her greatest support. But when grandma’s health suddenly worsens, Ida becomes convinced that only the mysterious singing from the nearby cemetery can help her. So she decides to join the school choir—but her voice is so out of tune that she is rejected at the audition. Crossing the line between reality and the magical world, Ida must face the loss and changes that come as part of growing up. The film was screened at FilmFestival Cottbus and was in competition at the latest Torino Film Festival.

“Through the world of childhood loneliness, I wanted to show the space between the lightness of everyday life and the quiet presence of an inevitable loss. In the face of this feeling, one may find solace in imagination, play, solitude, or spending time with friends, seeking safety wherever they can. The film primarily unfolds within these moments.” (E. Ivakič)
