Dicembre porta ondate di freddo e nevicate in Europa. L’ordine esistente viene distrutto non solo dalle condizioni climatiche avverse, ma anche dagli “stranieri” che vogliono entrare nel territorio dell’Unione Europea. Alcuni si preparano al Natale come sempre, altri lottano per sopravvivere. Trentuno capitoli s’intrecciano in un mosaico di empatia e indifferenza, offrendo uno specchio della società odierna di fronte alla crisi migratoria.
“December draws attention to and raises awareness about what is happening on the border of Poland with
Belarus. Most of the media has its eyes on the border with Ukraine and overlooks the fact that on the first
mentioned border refugees are dying and are denied humanitarian aid. According to international law, the
receiving country is obliged to help, to consider the asylum request and cannot force people into a pushback
system which places them in a trap between the two borders, often resulting in death. This film tries to be
one of the many voices attempting to explain the heart-breaking reality of thousands of refugees from the
Middle East and Africa on the Eastern border of the European Union.” (G. Paprzycki)
Grzegorz Paprzycki
Director, screenwriter, and cinematographer Grzegorz Paprzycki was born in 1984 in Kalisz, Poland. He is a
graduate of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice (2019) and Adam Mickiewicz University in
Poznań (2007). His films have received over thirty awards and honorable mentions at both Polish and
international festivals. December is his debut feature-length documentary; among the projects selected in
2024 at Last Stop Trieste – WEMW, it premiered at the latest Sheffield DocFest.
