Charlotte (42) lives together with her father in an isolated place in Trentino, but she actually lives in a world of her own. She is mentally impaired. When her father is brought to the hospital for a heart attack, Charlotte’s brother Leo (32) returns to the village after ten years. He learns that his sister wants to leave and offers her to come to Switzerland with him. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in the life of Charlotte, who has never traveled before.
“The idea behind this film project was as simple as it was challenging: to capture and convey the reality of a person with a mental disorder. Charlotte’s story is told from her own perspective: we experience how the protagonist perceives her environment. But there is also an outer perspective on Charlotte through the characters with whom she interacts. This allows the film to strive identification with Charlotte, albeit not uncritically.” (R. Colla)
Rolando Colla
Director, scriptwriter and producer, joint Swiss and Italian citizenship, Rolando Colla was born in 1957 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. In 1984 he founded the production company Peacock Film. Since 2012 he is a member of the European Film Academy. Since 2020 he has been a professor at CISA Film Academy in Locarno. The Trieste FF presented several of his previous films. Charlotte, One of Us premiered at the Hanoi Film Festival.
