This film walk will introduce you to an eventful and suspended era in Trieste’s history from which film and literature have taken their cues to tell of secret agents, double agents, opposing blocs and international intrigue. Gianluca Guerra will talk about films covering a period of about two decades, from the end of World War II to the spy b-movies of the 1960s via 007, Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, and Christopher Nolan.
Espionage films, secret agents and international intrigue in cinema’s interpretation of the “Trieste question” and the Iron Curtain: French and American films read the Trieste situation through the lens of adventure, inaugurating a tradition that starts with Wagon Bed for Trieste and Diplomatic Courier and then goes through the entertaining Eurospy emulators of 007.
The film walk THE WORLD IN A CITY will traverse the locations of espionage and thrillers by recounting the adventures that took place there between historical reality legend and fiction.
