The camera travels in the villages of the Northern Caucasus and in Northern Azerbaijan, where ancient tribes such as the Jews of the Mountain have lived for a long time. Monika Bulaj explores this world with her 15-year-old son, to share its life and everyday life, spells and mysteries. A place where the houses climb the mountain, and in the vigils men tell stories that are always different. There, the people seem to belong together to the earth and the sky. A place where time is that of the seasons, of moving with the flocks, of the duration of light. But it’s also the time of celebrations and propitiatory rites. Noah’s Sons is an adventure of the eyes, that aims at getting closer to the real meaning of things.
“In the landscape of that region, in the land of ‘the temples of fire’ (where the soil is cracked, and gas and flames come out of cracks), something primeval has always mesmerized me. But I did not want to make a movie about those peopleʼs faith, even if each gesture they make includes something ritual, something spiritual.” (M. Bulaj)
