Retired professor, promoter of palliative care Manca Košir is diagnosed with cancer. She says her friendship with death began at the age of 19, when she spent most of the time in a coffin in the film Breza (The Birch Tree, 1967 by Ante Babaja). Today, Manca lets us into her intimate world, which is the door to the exploration of departure. The documentary is also an exploration of the director’s experience of the loss of her father. With the home videos of her mother, filmed by the director, she explores her father’s absence and
intertwines the material with Manca’s story. The Silence of Life was presented, among others, at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož and at the Torino Film Festival in 2024.
“The motivation for the film is the loss of my father. The film explores the question of mortality and the time we have left. What is important in life? Manca Košir was a great promoter of palliative care and her story is a doorway to research on departure.” (N. Blažin)
