After many years working far from home, Mila is forced to temporarily leave her seaside mansion—and her secret romance—to return to her family in a remote Polish village. But the long-awaited reunion is far from what she imagined. As tensions surface, Mila struggles to repair what was lost, confronting the cost of her choices and the woman she has become. One of the projects of ‘This is IT’ 2025, Mama premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was then screened at many international festivals, including Toronto, Gdynia, Warsaw and Tallinn.
“In my home, the roles were clear. My father was the dominant provider. My mother was the quiet housewife … After years of struggling with Parkinson’s disease my mother decided to let into their home an immigrant worker. And suddenly there was another woman in our home. And she’d be the housewife my mom couldn’t be anymore … Having a new foreign woman in our home affected me a lot. Looking at this ‘transparent’ woman as a substitute maid added another layer to my complicated concept of womanhood …
I want to shed a new light on characters from the outskirts of society. Mila is an immigrant struggling to survive, but she’s also bursting with vitality and sexuality. She knows how to conceal it, and hide it under her maid costume. But actually, she wants to live her life full of passion. My artistic intentions all come from my desire to give Mila the opportunity to be pushed from the margins of society to the center – at least during the temporary existence of the film.” (O. Sinai)
