Lutheran pastor Jana finds herself struggling to practise what she preaches to her rural Slovenian parish. She has a strong religious background, with both her parents being pastors. She has overcome childhood sexual abuse, her father’s alcoholism and a rebellious youth. With her humorous and open spirit, she feels increasingly trapped by the rigid teachings of her Church. She is faced with a life dilemma: whether to step away from her profession. Her family is strongly against it. Meanwhile, the cracks in her marriage also
appear, and long-hidden family wounds start to open. Audience Award and Fipresci Prize at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož.
“For five years we have put our heart into this project, following the everyday life of pastor Jana. Woman of God is an observational and participative documentary. Jana is complex: funny, spontaneous, edgy and thoughtful. Beneath it all, we sense her doubts and pain. I see this film as a therapeutic tool for her…” (M. Prettner)
