Twenty-something printing house worker Andrius is skeptical about his boyfriend Deividas’ activism and worried about being threatened by neo-Nazis. Deividas is the head of Rainbow Kaunas, a group organising the first Pride in Kaunas, the second biggest city of Lithuania. One night, coming back after a fight, Andrius finds Deividas murdered. Seeing indifferent reactions from society and the police, Andrius takes on a new mission: to find the killer himself.
“The current world feels complicated. Our societies are divided, and growing nationalism keeps gaining stunning allies both in Europe and across the world, including within the LGBT+ community. We need to talk about this. Only by understanding the intricacies of the modern far-right can we fight it. Romas Zabarauskas
Romas Zabarauskas is a Lithuanian film director, screenwriter, and producer, born in 1990 and based in Vilnius. He holds a BA in film from the University of Saint-Denis in Paris (2009-2012) and an MA in Communication from KSU in Vilnius (2014-2016). Currently, Zabarauskas is pursuing a PhD in film at the National Film School of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. In 2012, he founded the production company Naratyvas and is a member of the European Film Academy. The Activist was presented at the Tallinn Black Nights FF in 2025, in the Baltic Film Competition.
