From October 22 to November 5, 2026, the Knulp space in Trieste, located at Via della Madonna del Mare 7/A, will host Odissea dorata: A Journey Through Montenegro in Transition , a photography exhibition by Alessia Capasso, curated by Diego Ferrante.
On Thursday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m., during the exhibition opening, the photographer will engage in a conversation with Marco Siragusa and Martina Napolitano of Meridiano 13, exploring the themes of the project and the transformations taking place in contemporary Montenegro.
The photographic journey began in 2016, a symbolic year for Europe: while the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, Montenegro celebrated the tenth anniversary of its independence from Serbia, looking instead toward European integration.
It is precisely from this contradiction that Alessia Capasso’s perspective emerges; she began photographing the country that year and returned several times in the following years to document its changes and tensions. Her images tell the story of a generation that grew up in a long geopolitical waiting room, caught between European aspirations and deep ties to Yugoslav heritage, Orthodox traditions, and the complex history of relations with neighboring countries.
*Odissea dorata* thus explores the identity of an independent country that is still searching for its sense of belonging, using photography to capture the contradictions of a society in transition and the questions that accompany its journey toward the future.
